Since then the idea of a branch in Berbice was mooted, he noted.At present, the Bar Association in Berbice has only 17 attorneys who service the entire East Berbice/Corentyne. The attorneys said they are cognizant of the difficulties that litigants may face.According to Mr. Rajkumar, the legal aid clinic can be influential and a lobbying force for equality for women and children, and consumer rights, among other things.Razeeka Majid, Chairperson of Region Six Women’s Affairs Committee, pointed out that many women and children suffer silently and, in the final analysis, in many cases, become dysfunctional. She spoke of the increase in old age pension and the fact that many of the hurdles have been removed.She noted that the legal aid service is the gateway to the court system.
