He said that there is much more to economic growth than buying or selling with specific reference to production.He added that his government welcomes investors, not only in trading, but also agro-processing, energy generation, information technology, telecommunication, engineering, fishing, housing, mining, manufacturing and tourism all of which can be of benefit from a country with a larger economy.Guyana’s economic policy is predicated by the necessity for economic freedom, he said, and that Government pursues a market-based economy through policies that promote investment in the productive and the commercial sectors.Economic freedom presupposes the rights of businesses to earn profit, and the right to foreign investors to repatriate those profits. It is also about competition, efficiency of legislation and regulation.He assured the Chinese business community of his Administration’s commitment to creatingPresident David Granger and Chinese Ambassador to Guyana, Zhang Limin unveiling the 2016 business magazine.an enabling business environment; promoting thriving commerce and international trade by creating an enabling environment for investment; suppressing illicit trade; protecting the rights and freedoms of all people; providing infrastructure to enable freer faster and cheaper movement to the hinterland and the other sources of economic growth; and to ensuring a strong regulatory framework so as to secure fairness, quality, high standards and the protection of the interests of consumers.But there are conditions and terms. “We are committed, equally, to suppressing illicit trade and to preventing our environment from despoliation.
